It took a while but we found Buddy’s perfect assignment. He loves to have a small group of teens sitting on the floor around him and he goes from lap to lap. Sometimes he rolls over for a belly rub and sometimes he stretches out so many kids can pet him at once. Sometimes he just sits in front of the one child that he knows needs him the most. He is not the Hugging Dog like Charlie is. He does not love being picked up over a shoulder but rather to cuddle and be cradled and melt into your touch. Sometimes he wants to sit up on his own chair. When we share his story he really listens. He knows his life is so special and that everyone deserves the chance for love and care and happiness. His message is strong and we see the kids nodding their heads in agreement. Every life is worthy and sometimes it just takes longer to be understood.
