Today we said goodbye to Rocky AKA Rocket Man. Almost three years ago I adopted a very tiny Maltese named Rockwell. He came to me from a wonderful rescue Connor & Millie. They specialize in finding homes for seniors or those pups with special needs. Rocky was both! Rocky was very small and needed eye surgery as soon as I got him. He learned to wear Rec Specs when he went outside. When he saw me take them out he got excited as it meant he was going on an adventure. He became a Pet Partners therapy dog and loved being in schools and with children, especially those living with challenges such as his. He was quite the spry senior until he retired this past April. He loved Charlie and Buddy became his best friend. Two days ago he started declining rapidly and we knew the inevitable was near. Our wonderful vet Leslie Stewart at Town Center Animal Hospital and her nurse Kelly are the most compassionate professionals and when I said I needed to come over today they made time for me, to talk and assess and make decisions. It takes a village to have a pet and it takes a village to lose a pet. For everyone who met this remarkable little man thank you for enriching his life and mine.
