Opportunity Village Clubhouse

We love visiting with the clients at the Opportunity Village Clubhouse. The staff and volunteers always enjoy meeting the therapy dogs, but often the clients are a bit nervous. Of course some come over right away and want to cuddle and pet. But some are wary of the dogs, especially the large ones.

But Dexter and Maisy have a way of making everyone feel comfortable and they attracted crowds throughout the visit. Maisy even sat in laps which everyone thought was so silly for such a large dog! Then Deter rolled over for belly rubs and everyone had to take a turn.

Buddy was the only small dog and easily held so he was quite popular. He especially felt drawn to one client and followed her around the room for more petting.

One client in particular was not interested in the dogs at all. But when I went over to sit with him with Buddy he started looking over. I just stayed with Buddy and at one point Buddy gave the man a very gentle kiss on his hand. That brought about eye contact for the first time. With a little assistance and hand over hand petting, Buddy made a new friend.

This was such a special visit and we look forward to many more.
